Paraded in shame: a developer and planner back to back on a donkey re-create Thomas Hardy’s Skimmity Ride from the Mayor of Casterbridge. The crowd march in protest at Dorset’s local plan proposal to build a town of 4000 houses above Dorchester’s water meadows.
They believe Dorset Deserves Better – much better. The town, which would take decades to build would suck the economic life out of surrounding villages and towns across Dorset bringing little benefit to the people.
According to the Office for National Statistics, the development is not even needed – Dorset already has enough sites to meet its housing needs for the next 18 years without the need for any Greenfield development.
